Cancelling a building society’s registration

When registration can be cancelled

There are several situations that can result in a building society’s registration being cancelled.

Building societies registration can be cancelled:

  • by liquidation when the liquidation provisions of the Companies Act 1993 apply (section 118 of the Act)
  • by conversion to a company (Part 7A of the Act) or
  • when the society is dissolved in accordance with its rules and with the Act (sections 114 and 115 of the Act).
