Updating your building society's addresses
How to advise us of changes
You must let us know if the contact details for your building society or its official addresses (registered office address or address for service) change. Contact details are not displayed on the public register but are used by us to contact your society if needed.

The information you need to provide
You need to provide a physical address for your society’s registered office address and address for service. There are no set forms for registering these changes, but make sure they are:
- Made in accordance with your current rules.
- Documented on letterhead paper and signed by appropriate persons as set out in the Building Societies Act 1965.
To update your society’s contact details you will need to provide its current address for communications, email address and a phone number (the address for communication can be a postal address such as a PO Box).
Updating your contact details
You can update the following contact details online. Your building society’s:
- phone number
- address for communications, or
- email address.
Updating your official addresses
Notify us of any change to your building society’s registered office address or address for service by:
- Preparing a written document that confirms the new address, and
- Uploading the change of address online within 14 days.
File formats for uploading documents
Any documents you upload must be:
- clear and easily read
- saved in PDF format, and
- no larger than 20MB.
How to change these details online
You will need:
- a RealMe® login, and
- confirmed authority with us to update this building society.
If it is your first time updating details for a building society, you will be prompted for information to set up an online account with us.

Step by step
Update the registered office address or address for service
- Log in using your RealMe login.
- Select 'Authorities' from the menu.
- Choose your building society from the list.
- Select ‘Create Filing Service’.
- Choose ‘Lodge Other Document’ (for the type of service).
- Upload the document you prepared that describes the address changes.
- Submit your change.
We will send you an email confirming that your change has been submitted. We will then review your changes and contact you if we have any questions or need any further information. We aim to complete our review within 10 working days.
If we register your change, we will confirm that by email. If we reject your change, we will email you and outline the reasons why.
You can check the status of your change by logging into the Building Societies Register. Choose the ‘Filing Services’ option to view any changes that are in progress. If your change status shows as ‘Draft’ you can edit or discard it by choosing the drop-down arrow alongside the filing service.

- Log in using your RealMe login.
- Select Authorities from the menu.
- Choose your building society from the list.
- Select ‘Edit Entity’.
- Update the contact details that have changed.
- Submit your change.
The register will be updated immediately with the changes you have submitted.
